4And then, as this person was a military officer, as his frontline service ended, he was assigned to the rear and went to Nonsan Training Centre.그리고 그다음에는 이 사람이 군인 장교인고로 전방 생활이 끝나면서 후방으로 발령이 나서 논산훈련소로 간 겁니다.

5As he came to serve in a rear unit at Nonsan Training Centre, the unit called the 27th Regiment was right in Iksan-gun.논산훈련소 후방 부대에 근무하게 되니까 바로 27연대라고 하는 부대가 바로 익산군에 있었습니다.

6It was in Iksan-gun, North Jeolla Province, and that unit was located in the village called Donggodo-ri, Geumma-myeon, Iksan-gun.전라북도 익산군에 있었는데 익산군 금마면 동고도리라고 하는 그 부락에 그 부대가 있었습니다.

7So, this person taught soldiers during the day, and taught civilian students at night.그래서 이 사람이 낮에는 군인들을 가르치고, 밤이면 민간인 학생들을 가르쳤던 겁니다.

8Since there were no separate classrooms, he borrowed elementary school classrooms and taught middle school subjects to middle school students, and high school subjects to high school students.교실이 따로 없으니까 국민학교 교실을 빌려 가지고 중학생들은 중학교 공부를, 고등학교 학생들은 고등학교 공부를 가르쳤던 겁니다.

9At that time, young people around Donggodo-ri, Geumma-myeon, North Jeolla Province, became curious and flocked there because a military officer was teaching.그 당시에 전라북도 금마면 동고도리 주위에 있는 젊은 청년들이 군인 장교가 공부를 가르쳐준다니까 호기심이 나가지고 몰려든 겁니다.

10But he taught better than ordinary teachers, and taught interestingly, so students kept pouring in, 200 or 300 students at a time.그런데 일반 선생들보다도 더 잘 가르치거든, 재미있게 가르치고, 그러니까 학생들이 막 밀려드는 데 2백 명 3백 명씩 밀려든 겁니다.

11So, this person established a middle and high school there.그래서 이 사람이 거기다가 중고등학교를 세운 겁니다.

12So, even now, Iksan High School was established by this person. Iksan High School exists.그래서 지금도 익산고등학교가 이 사람이 세운 겁니다. 익산고등학교가 있어요.

13So, even when this person lived in the world, he only did good deeds for people in the world; this person never struggled or tried hard to make money.그러니까 이 사람이 세상에 살 때도 세상 사람들한테 좋은 일만 했지, 이 사람이 돈 벌려고 기를 쓰고 애를 쓴 적이 없습니다.

14This person always taught until eleven or twelve at night and ran to the unit, which was 5 ri away.항상 이 사람은 밤 열한 시 열두 시까지 공부를 가르치고 뛰어서 5리 길이 되는 부대까지 들어가는 겁니다.

15So, this person arranged for accommodation, slept there, and as soon as it was 4 AM, ran towards the unit.그래서 이 사람이 숙소를 정해가지고 숙소에서 자고 새벽 4시만 되면 부대를 향해서 뛰어가는 겁니다.

16So, while this person was sleeping, because he was so exhausted, he bled a lot from his nose.그러니까 이 사람이 자다가 너무 고단하니까 코피를 많이 쏟은 겁니다.

17So, since a lot of nosebleed was stained bright red on the pillow, students came and saw it, and hugging the pillow, cried, saying, "How exhausted must the teacher be to have bled so much from his nose?"그러니까 코피가 베개에 많이 시뻘겋게 묻어 있으니까, 학생들이 와서 보고 "선생님이 얼마나 고단하면 코피를 이렇게 많이 흘리셨을까?" 하고서 베개를 부둥켜안고 울고 있었던 겁니다.

18When this person went there, they grabbed me and cried, saying, "How exhausted must the teacher be to have bled so much?"그때 이 사람이 가니까 나를 붙잡고 "선생님이 얼마나 고단하면 이렇게 피를 많이 흘리셨습니까" 하고 우는 겁니다.

I am currently going about so healthily; should you cry as if you've all become dead patients? Stop crying," they stopped crying."내가 잠시 고단해서 코피를 흘린 걸 가지고 무얼 그렇게 슬프게 우느냐, 현재 이렇게 내가 건강하게 다니고 있는데, 너희들이 다 죽은 환자가 된 것처럼 울면 되느냐, 울음을 그치라"고 하니까 그러니까 울음을 그치더라고요.
